Black Rhino Game Lodge is a hidden treasure set amongst the trees of an old Tamboti forest at the foot of an ancient volcanic crater

Description

Black Rhino Game Lodge is a hidden treasure set amongst the trees of an old Tamboti forest at the foot of an ancient volcanic crater that today comprises one of South Africa’s most exciting Big 5 eco-tourism destinations, the greater Pilanesberg National Park. It is from here, accompanied by your personal game ranger, that you will be able explore a 58 000ha malaria free wildlife wonderland and discover the magic of the African bush.

Located in the west side of the ‘Malaria Free’ Pilanesberg National Park, and only 33km from Sun City - Black Rhino Game Lodge is the ideal location for a luxurious bushveld breakaway.

The Lodge is built between a Tamboti forest, overlooking a busy waterhole, which is a hive of bird and animal activity, and a playground for the elephant. On many occasions, the stillness of the night is broken by the roaring of lions, and the franklins sing the morning wake up call. Once, you are awakened with a hot cup of coffee, your host ranger will take you out on an exceptional game drive, taking you through Black Rhino Reserve, into the unexplored valley of the Pilanesberg, until we reach the 200km network Pilanesberg Park roads.

We’ve just had a four night stay for our honeymoon and it really was the trip of a lifetime. The incredibly friendly staff went above and beyond to make it special. The food was delicious and the lodges luxury. Our Ranger - Freedom, was very knowledgeable and gave us some extraordinary sightings!
Only stayed one night but it was great. Will definitely come back. Large nice lodge with a nice hot spa after the sunset safari. Fanatic staff, great food in a superb location. Plenty of animals seen at the pond at the main building before even going on the safariRooms: 4/5
The whole staff was amazing, friendly and very helpful and the food was excellent. However the bedrooms were a disaster; the bedding, carpets, towels and curtains were dirty and had an unpleasant smell, housekeeping is very bad the rooms were not clean at all, there was dust on the fans, bugs and lizards everywhere and the beds are very old and need replacement. There were no TV, microwaves, iron and ironing board in the rooms. But otherwise if you want to be in touch with the wild this is a place you can consider..
Great experience, everybody was very welcoming and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. Food was very good and the game drive were excellent.Rooms: 5/5
We arrived in the Friday 23rd December, I hope the below is read in a positive and constructive light. The service was below average, staff stood around in gatherings instead of cleaning tables, removing plates etc. The pastries were old and rubbery, obviously prepared days in advance and left to get old. One day there was fruit, the following two thereafter nothing. No water provided except for sugar loaded mixed juice at the breakfast station, butter ran out after day one, margarine became the staple. I had to top up the coffee filter numerous times and refill the water tank as it was insufficient for the almost 40+ guests. Nobody kept and eye on matters. I am convinced the chef had taken off prior to Christmas day, he was not to be seen until the evening of the 25th. The food was average in preparation. I expected more from an establishment especially over peak season. The lavatories were not cleaned sufficiently considering the number of people at any given time at the reception area. The face cloth handed to you upon completion of a game drive was dirty and one resorted to avoiding it at all costs. The air-conditioning unit in our abode did not work properly and seemed to have been giving up the ghost. All the ingredients are there for a magnificent experience, its a pity it lost its way. Our safari Ranger named Rassie is world class. He has a wonderful attitude, enthusiastic about life, the bush and taking guests for a drive. He was undoubtedly the highlight of the 4 days. He made each and every trip into the bush an extraordinary experience. He is a true ambassador of ranger life. Thank you Rassie! I am sure the team and owners at Rhino lodge will get the little and important things right. Food, service, attitude, and being organised is what makes the difference. Kind regards Graham
This Lodge stated luxury but is far from it for the prices they charge. We have stayed in many lodges and this is by far below standard of what is expected. Dirty carpets, curtains, maintenance bad, front management is chaos and disorganized. Air con not working, food not the best. They would rather say sorry than change the situation. The difference is in the small things and they don't offer that. Other lodges are detail orintated and people focused this lodge is not. We will not recommend this to anyone. Dewald was the shining star and so was Porina from reception. Other than that...this lodge is a solid NO from us.
We really enjoyed our stay. We saw lots of animals and our guide was very knowledgeable. All the staff was very attentive. My only issue was the in the room as there was no door to the bathroom, when traveling with family it is a little awkward due to lack of privacy. All in all, it was an amazing experience and would highly recommend.
Lovely place with all the comforts of home, the rooms were always clean. Everyone is very nice and makes you feel welcome. Very friendly management and staff who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable Rooms: 5/5
Great people. They are super helpful in all regards. Saw tons of game of the top varieties. Food was epic and plentiful. Rooms are good. A tad rundown but more than you need.
We enjoyed staying in the lodge and the game drives. Service its exelent and price its acording to the service. Will recomend this lodge to anyone asking .Rooms: 5/5
