Perfect place for a staycation or getaway without needing to leave the city - but definitely feels like you're out of the city! Very quiet and pretty surroundings. Quaint rooms and public areas, and the historical pictures and information around the hotel and in the rooms is a lovely touch. Everything is clean and well maintained and the staff are really friendly and helpful in all areas.
All round very nice hotel, I highly recommend it. The service is out of this world, very professional and friendly staff, from the front desk, to the kitchen and dining staff, to the maintenance and grounds grooming gentlemen. My wife and I absolutely loved our stay there... it's our second when we are next in Cape TownRooms: 5/5
A few years ago, we just loved this little gem of a place, shall I say once upon a time! On arrival you keep on buzzing the gate and no response. Happened twice. Eventually you make use of your hooter to get the attention of reception. Please do not dare ask them why they don’t open the gate, you get told “you did not ring the bell”! At reception a lady came begging for a warmer blanket for her little one, the more she asked for one, the more the reception lady asked her did she not get a blanket? Quite embarrassing. The Wild Fig restaurant was very enjoyable. The Hotel room was beautiful. Sadly it had a terrible bad toilet spray/mouldy bathroom smell, so overwhelming and unbearable that one could not bare the smell for longer than a few seconds. It did not help much as the room was standing closed with no ventilation. One can only imagine how long it’s been like this. After a few minutes more, we decided to leave and cut this bad experience short, and find an alternative place to stay. On reporting our unsatisfactory experience to management the next day, it became even worse! After management had enough time to check on all the facts and call me back, the reception manager did not do so. Once again I had to telephone the reception manager, who in turn had this unacceptable tone of arrogance in her voice. After explaining to her how to check on all the facts, it was evident her lack of experience in this regard. I asked her for the Hotel manager at 4:20pm in the afternoon, I was told he had already left. After demanding to speak to the hotel manager, I eventually got a call from him this morning. Obviously he only heard his reception managers version, and already made up his mind how he was going to deal with this. I explained everything over again and asked him to please check all the facts properly before addressing the issue further. He said he would, but don’t hold your breath. My recommendation: Do not book here, as they do not live up to the standard this prestigious hotel once had!
Unexpected gem, off the beaten path. We were so pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The staff are exceptionally lovely. Our room was spacious and cleaned very well. The rooms are slightly outdated since the building is more historic, but we honestly didn't mind. The hotel is also quite conveniently located, close to Town and the highway. There is definitely room for improvement at the breakfast buffet: The dining room is super noisy as the floors are wooden and old - I would suggest the use of rugs to lessen the noise generated by chairs and footsteps. The food was good, but some things are better when they are made to order, e.g. pancakes. The service was straight up poor. We never even got a chance to order a second round of coffee.
Staff is very pleasant & friendly. Delicious breakfast and I like that they had a Jumping castle for the kids entertainment. The room lighting wasn't that bright, way too Dim. Cutlery in the room would have been a great addition as well as extra blankets readily available. Pool area was kept clean at all times. A great stay overall at this delightful hotel.
Friendly and helpful staff with good communication upfront trough e-mail. I can recommend when you are looking for a place after arriving on the airport. Just 15 min drive. Great for a short stay with toddler and they had gluten free options at breakfast.
Very rustic hotel and very convenient if you have meetings at UCT or Groote Schuur Hospital. Approximately 5km from the city centre .Location: 4/5
What a lovely welcome at Protea Mowbray after a day's work! I always stay here, this is truly home away from home. Thx Pam for your special touch. See you next time. Leonie
Great Location. Country feel in the middle of the city. Rooms are large and comfortable. Friendly staff with special mention to the restaurant staff, Nosipho and Pamela who assisted with our special requirements.Rooms: 4/5
First get embarrassed for a half hr by the staff, insisting that you don't have a voucher.. everything was booked and in order online and confirmed a month in advance... Dtsv always giving away prizes that their partnering company doesn't want to honor. Protea hotel Mowbray please train your staff! Same thing happened with the Pro shop!
