The only place I will ever adopt a pet from. They really care about the animals they have on rescue. Volunteers every day pet and care for them. Clean environment where pets roam freely through home-like rooms, with typicAl home-like furnishings. Never an overwhelming smell of litterboxes., though there are several around. Easy adoptions. Great people. Better than any other place in Erie county.

My sister got her dog, Toby (formerly named Smokey), from Because You Care last year. They were great in the process of helping them and finding him the perfect home. He is a very important member in our family now and we all look forward to every minute we get to spend with him. He has changed so much since he was adopted and is incredibly happy in his forever home! THANK YOU!

We had an incredible experience adopting a kitten! The volunteers are great and the facility is perfect for teaching the cats house skills before adoption.

BYC is a great organization and staffed with caring people. They always have the best interest in mind when it comes to the animals in their care. I worked as a volunteer for the organization for many years, and they never hesitated to help with injured or sick animals. They even assisted me with a large bill incurred from one of my foster cats, when they could have decided to euthanize him, which would have been cheaper. They are not an organization trying to make a buck when reuniting pets and their owners. They are an organization that has a fiduciary responsibility to the animals they help. All too often volunteers and all animal organizations see traumatic and dire neglect, and will guard against that as much as possible. I will always recommend an organization that is prudent and commend them on staying the course when being pressured not to.

Volunteers were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable helping us adopt our first dog. Very nice facility and they do a great job fostering most of the dogs prior to adoption.
