Goatville Cyclesmith is a hidden gem right in the midst of the busy State Street scene of New Haven, CT. Only a block or so from the nationally rated Modern Apizza and many other restaurants and shops, you will find a beautiful wooden barn with a red roof and sign reading Goatville at the end of a deadend street. This spot was referred to me by my son who runs a custom bikeshop nearby (TrueCyclery). He said I'd find the perfect bike for me: his over 70, gray haired, not very athletic, but healthy mom. Sure enough, inside the barn was my dream bike glistening in all its glory: a pure white, step-through, Detroit Bike series B. Just the basics: 3 speeds, hand and foot breaks, comfortable seat, made in America. After a test ride through a nearby quiet street, I knew it was perfect. Joel LaChance, proprietor of Goatville, fitted it to my frame, tightened a few gizmos, and sent me on my way. Postscript: I am now at the Jersey Shore riding everyday on the quiet streets, and loving my new bike. It's given me a whole new outlook on life. Thanks Joel!
