Holiday Inn Hartford Downtown Area

A 3-star hotel that provides a better experience then one would expect. The rooms are very well maintained. The staff are all friendly, professional, and supportive. The amenities are wonderful, especially for a hotel of this size and caliber. The swimming pool is a great benefit. The hotel is clean, well-kept, and the rooms and floors are quiet and devoid of Riff Raff. The area is convenient and close to downtown Hartford with free shuttles was running to and from major points of attraction. The front desk is extremely accommodating. I stayed here on a number of occasions and look forward to coming back each time.

When I arrived, there was a guy smoking a joint right in front of the hotel. Then, as I waited in line behind 4 sets of guests being serviced by a single receptionist, I overheard complaints about rooms smelling of marijuana. Then, when I went to my room around 10 pm, there were loud noises in the hallway and through the walls. I could understand and hear the neighbor's conversations. That said, the saving grace is that the receptionist was awesome. He had a steady line and back to back phone calls, but he kept things moving and was super friendly. He was very patient with a demanding elderly couple in front of me and very apologetic and accommodating to the guy who complained about his room.

Checked in late Thursday night, the room was fine for the price and area. Not in town for long and left the room by 1pm Friday asking the front desk person if they could send someone to clean and restock towels etc, to which they said yeah. Had to run back quickly to the room around 4 to do some things SEEING MY ROOM LEFT AS IS so when heading back out at 5 I asked again if someone would be up to do what I was told would be done when I was out before. Was advised that there is no house keeping staff left at that time so won’t be able to clean?! Terrible experience knowing that regular cleaning/restocking isn’t normal here but lying about getting it done is.. Will never stay again! The front desk did not offer any assistance either besides for apologize. And I will admit it was different people the second time but it’s still one hotel and an apology doesn’t exactly address the issue at hand.

Let's preface to say we are here for a big sporting event and the hotel is packed with people. This should not excuse good service as the rooms were booked months ago so management had plenty of time to prepare. Our reservation was "lost", we had to wait about 20 minutes for them to find us a room. The room was not as clean as we would expect. At 5am we were startled awake by a man attempting to enter our room with his key assigned to our room. The breakfast was overpriced. Our room was not serviced or cleaned while we were out. We lost power in half our room. A maintenance person did fix it immediately. The staff is polite.

I have been in this area of Hartford multiple times and so far, this hotel was the best one in its price range. The room was neat and clean, and bed was super comfortable. Hotel receptionist, Daniel, was polite and accommodating and provided us with breakfast out of hotel hours so we can keep up our travel schedule.
