The paths are well maintained & number marked (with GPS location data), with pavilion parking on east IL state side of building. On west side Bartlet has a great staff with kids nature center, (with free parking also).

Came here with a school field trip. The staff did a great job teaching the class, relating with the students.

Know this place like the back of my hand. If you explore the deer trails and forests, there are remains of rusted and broken farmer equipment. Coyotes, Blue Herons, Deer, Opposums, Alligator Snapping Turtles... you name it. During the years where the fields are burned for new growth, there is always a high chance you will find the bone remains of deer and rabbits from prior coyote kills and otherwise the deer's untimely death. There is a lot to explore in this preserve. You will just have to find it all first.
