MDOT MVA Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program

A mixture of long waits and quick service to meet Maryland emissions requirements. I just took a pickup truck that is used for summer chores and didn't need a battery replacement after sitting all winter. It took all of ten minutes and passed. $14 and good for two more years. Once the battery is replaced, you'll have to drive a few hundred miles to pass the test as it uses the engine computer and its memory is erased when the battery goes. Last time I probably drove more miles to failed inspections than all other chores that year. Nothing wrong with the emissions but they won't do the old exhaust analysis with a sniffer on a vehicle that's 1996 or newer. Rules... gotta wait on all the computer measurements to be updated. While I'm all for clean air, the smoking junkers are somehow exempt and the convoys of soot spewing dump trucks in clouds of foul smelling exhaust leave us in smog on a summer day. A great goal but the process is flawed.

Nobody looks forward to adding emissions testing to their schedule, but if you must, this place is great. Easy to get to and efficient which keeps the whole thing as painless as possible.

There were five cars ahead of me which I didn't feel was a long line. Someone came out and immediately greeted me, explained they were opening another lane. I was here for five minutes total and both individuals that I spoke with very pleasant.

Very friendly personel, quick service. Was in and out in 10 minutes !
