Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Statesville

Wow, this place is a complete dump! Appearances are deceiving. This place is an example of WHY I'll never stay at a Mom and Pop hotel. You need corporate support with people like this. The girl checking me in during the day barely speaks any English and does not seem right in the head. You ask her something and it takes her 10 seconds to barely comprehend what you said and isn't too kind in her response. The staff and manager are beyond rude and they do not know the meaning of HOSPITALITY and service at this property. Avoid this place like the plague. Instead, stay over at the Sleep Inn. They're a little further away but much better than this dump.

I'll start with the pros: it was very clean & seemed maintained well enough. I expected it to be very simple and it was. That was fine with me because it was just an overnight stay while traveling through from Ohio to Florida. The price was also a pro - very affordable. But, I was disappointed on a few fronts: the first and most significant (causing me to give it two stars instead of three) was that the walls were very thin so that we overheard our pizza-eating neighbors' discussion and TV well into the night (midnight) so it was hard to rest. We eventually downloaded a white noise app on my phone to mitigate the sound so we could sleep. Bfst was blah at best. Also, they were understaffed for bfst and check-out time. Sadly, the staff weren't warm or friendly for check-in or check-out. (As a side note, the rooms are very small and tight. Which only matters if you are traveling as a family. It's not necessarily a pro or a con. Just depends on your need.)

Being a Wyndham chain, and having stayed at other Microtels, this seemed like a no brainer. Upon arrival, we were apparently an inconvenience to the front desk person who barely looked at us while shoving papers to me to sign. In the morning when we were ready for showers (I booked the room for 2 adults and 1 child) we found 2 washcloths and towels. I called the front desk and was told rooms only come with two, unless I specifically ask for more. Then I was told I'd have to find housekeeping to get another set, since that wasn't her job. Room not that clean. Staff rude. Spend a little extra and stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Clean beds. Quiet area. Hot options for breakfast decent coffee. No pets.

Great place to stay. Was surprised by the size and cleanliness of the room. Kitchen area separated from the sleeping area by an island. Price was right too. Close access to Interstate 77.
