Vandalia Apartments

Absolutely Horrible. Do not let your child live here. They make up false claims, allow maintenance to go into little girls bedrooms with out reason to be there, lie about it and refuse to address the issue. In addition they sell this to you as WVU housing until something serious happens and then no matter who you call, it's not WVU. Nothing is ever addressed and your child will remain in danger with the potential of a unauthorized men entering their room for who knows what. GO TO PRIVATE HOUSING AT LEAST YOU CAN CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE CHARGES BROUGHT WVU WON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE. They called and left a message and when my daughter called back and left a message nothing. NO one ever called her back, no one ever addressed the issue with us and no one ever apologized for creating more anxiety in a freshmen student than they already have.

The quality of the apartments are not bad. There are no pets allowed, so that helps to keep them clean. I've lived here for two years now and typically there is no issue with privacy, though lately there have been lots of knocks on my door for maintenance because they were putting in new carpet and sub-flooring throughout the hallways. Also there is new construction of a (completely pointless) 3rd stairwell going on in the back of the front building. They start construction at 7am so I have not been able to sleep past that time for the last month because my apartment is on the backside of the building. Laundry is a huge pain because it's still a dorm-type facility. Washers appear average sized on the outside, but the drums are tiny and the water level does not reach to where it's supposed to so it forces you to either have dirty clothes, or do multiple loads (which means more $$$$ for the school). The dryers have worked fine in my experience, though students that still need their mommies to do laundry for them overfill them and leave them stinky and with puddles in them. Parking is not included and is an additional $112-150/month. It runs with your lease as well so you have to pay for the summer even if you aren't here. There is also no guest parking whatsoever. Maintenance is generally friendly and fixes things promptly like lights, garbage disposal issues (that aren't your fault), smoke detector batteries, air filters, etc. Rent is outrageous considering the apartments are tiny, but to have your own bathroom and be right downtown is the price you pay. The apartments are very modern as well. Hot water doesn't run out unless your roommate takes a shower and starts the dishwasher before your shower. No issues with mold or water leaks. Office staff are hit or miss, but they are University workers so they don't really have an incentive to persuade you to live here. Overall if you don't have a car and you have the money to waste, this is a good place.
