Bowens Island Restaurant

Every six months you need to eat fried seafood and if you are in Folly, go to Bowens Island Restaurant. The fried shrimp is the best. You get a couple of excellent hush puppies and some fries. Great sauces. Start with a craft draft or even a bucket of bud. Get views of shrimp and other boats. Totally casual. Service is wonderful. Don't forget about dessert....they have home made choices. PS...eat at the bar to avoid the wait but the wait is not long if you want a table.

Worth the visit for both the food and atmosphere. Just a casual deep fried seafood joint located on the water, overlooking the setting sun and boats bobbing in the water. Shrimp, fish and crab cakes were delicious. Don't go expecting anything but the deep fried kind. But in my opinion, why would you want anything different? Fun little place hidden off the road.

Honestly disappointed, especially after reading good reviews. Being born in Southeast Florida, l know good seafood. This restaurant does not serve raw oysters, only steamed or fried. If steamed, you shuck em'. The boiled shrimp had not been cooked with Old Bay or any sea salt so was fairly tasteless. The cocktail sauce was thinned ketchup with a sprinkle of hot sauce.. no horseradish. I kept adding salt and pepper to it, with no improvement. For me it was a waste of $18.00. My husband said the fried Whiting fish he ate was good but unfortunately we would not go back or recommend.

Absolutely awesome!! I love Bowens Island!! Whenever I go to visit my grandma in Charleston, we go to Bowens Island. I go in the summer and winter. The winter is the best time to go though because that is oyster season. The oysters at Bowens Island are so good! The oyster man always does such a good job! If you don't like oysters though, there is still tons of other types of seafood. Their shrimp are so good. It's always so fun to write a little message on the walls and the sunsets are gorgeous! Whenever I have any extra food, I go down to the docks and throw it up to the seagulls. It's a blast. Bowens Island is really good and I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for some amazing seafood!

First, the need to know: Get here as early as you can. We arrived 45 minutes before they opened and were the first in line, by 30 till there was already a line of roughly 15 people. Yeah. You need to come here. This place is THE BEST seafood there is. I'm not a seafood guy- my wife is, yet we both enjoyed the food immensely.
