I expected this experience to be as pleasant as most interactions I’d have with government officials in Japan, I was wrong. Bring your flight itinerary printout if you’re applying for a student visa; I ran out of data trying to email mine to them several times....the first time they said they couldn’t find any attachments in my email, the second time they said resolution wasn’t good enough. The lady who primarily handled my application was confused why I’d come to New York to apply (I was confused by her confusion and sensed slight superiority from her?!), and kept saying that I “have plenty time to apply, why now?” (I’m leaving the US in 10 days, and completely swamped by university workload....) I don’t even know what to say, except that I hope the consulate in Boston will be better. Though their receptionist did a great job. However, if you have the choice, don’t come here.

Very professional, kind staff. They were extremely informative to get my daughter's (J) passport. I was surprised how easy it was to use English. When I walked in, I was addressed in English helped by all staff in English. Very professional, informational, and kind.

Came here to apply for a tourist visa. The consulate is very organized. As long as you prepare all the documentation requested you should be fine. There is only one window that processes visa application and pickup. If you are pressed for time, make sure to arrive 30min before the consulate opens and wait in the lobby. Don't be like me dilly dallying in the Starbucks nearby and came to find out I was already the 6th in line.

Nosy, very rude and offensive. I certainly didn't expected that kind of treatment definitely here: I came here to notify our marriage. A female clerk with glasses at the counter went though all the necessary questions and found out I have also U visa pending status as well as others. She already saw that this is my first marriage from the document. However she asked again "You know what U visa is about.........?" While making suspicious offensive face. -- Are you kiddding me? After went though a lot and applied this visa, she thinks I applied without knowing what is U visa about!! She continues "so, that means, you were married at that time?", "Did you use a lawyer to apply? Etc etc. While making very offensive face that showing that's not possible as if I am lying! Yes, you ignorant, you can apply for U visa with various and righteous reasons without being married and if I used a lawyer or not is NOT your business! At that time, I didn't bring my current status document so I have to come back again with it but she could JUST say " please bring the document back next time" without asking questions that's nothing to do with processing a case. Don't be bothered by a "curious" woman who asks your personal matters to offend you.
