Laketown Beach

I love this place! It used to be a hidden gem... not so much anymore. Parking can be a challenge! Also, you might opt for a more accessible beach if you are not up for a physically challenging dune climb/hike.

Nice park with relatively straight forward access to a beautiful Lake Michigan beach. Yes, you do have to ascend some stairs and yes the stairs sometimes get completely filled with the shifting sands, but it’s a good calorie burn before you jump in the cold water.

I LOVE this beach! It's always very quiet and clean. The Dune is quite an undertaking though, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking to just arrive and relax because one way or another you're climbing the 80 million stairs at a near vertical incline or walking up the dune itself and it can be grueling after a long day. I'm also fond of walking down the beach to the north, it's about a 30 minute walk but the Big Red Lighthouse is up there and it's a nice spot to take a rest and enjoy the view.

Such an amazing beach. Be careful if you have kids as the sand gets blown onto the stairs if it's too windy. That makes it really hard to go up or down the hundreds of stairs.

Great beach for adventurers! Bring water, because those stairs are killer.
