My wife and I were interested in a dog here and after a dog to dog interaction with the dog we were interested in the woman who I assume was in charge came out and told us it wasn't a good fit. We weren't allowed to be in the room during the introduction. They asked zero questions about our current dogs temperament before beginning and after what seemed to me to be a normal dog interaction we were told we couldn't adopt the dog we wanted based on the lady who I assumed was in charges assessment of what happened. We were able to view the whole thing. Afterwards she had the gaw to tell us what we "wanted" in a dog and told me when I informed her of what we were actually looking for "well that just makes it more complicated". If you want what amounts to voodoo science from someone who maybe watched a couple of videos on fog behavior telling you what dog you should and shouldn't have by all means go ahead but as for us we will no longer waste our time with this shelter as the management seems more interested in stroking their own egos than finding qualified homes for dogs.

This is a long one. So I've been interested in one certain dog for about a month now. I had to put my dog down and when I looked on their website, I fell in love with beautiful Akita boy. I went in and visited him (Note this location is 38 - 40 mins from me), everything going well. I ended up going in multiple times to ask questions and visit him because I was so invested in this dog. It was my fourth visit in and I was sealing the deal with some last few questions because I was planning on getting him the day after. I talked to the lady I had been talking with previous visits and she had been nothing but helpful and sweet, but she directed me towards the manager. When I mentioned I had a cat (fully aware of the process I'd have to go through when introducing them) I was told, "Oh he'd eat it." Without any explanation. I had discussed with the previous lady that I had a cat and she said I'd be fine as long as I worked with him. The manager was quite rude to me and giving short answers to my questions. I was clearly flustered so she went on to say "Oh, he barks and chases squirrels and birds so he'll definitely eat the cat." I wasn't going to take that as an answer so I went to both the Zona and Main shelter locations and was told as long as I work with him it'd be fine. Great. I went in again with the leash and collar clearly ready to take him home when I was told, "The owner of your house needs to meet him." I knew this dog was going mine and my dad has giving me permission to get him knowing I was paying for everything. No where was it stated, nor was I told the 4 other visits I went there that he needed to come in. Flustered again, I was allowed to put him on hold, but not the 24 hour hold. Why I wasn't allowed to do the 24 hour hold, I don't know. Today I went in (for the 6th time) to finally adopt him and my dad was with me and I was told he was adopted before I got there, which was an hour after they opened. Why I had to go through so much to get him and then someone comes in and gets him instantly is frustrating. 2 out of the 3 employees there were completely rude when answering my questions (the manager and some woman) while only 1 employee was helpful and ready to give him to me. The dogs were well taken care of which is the only reason why I gave them 2 stars, but the staff (aside from the 1) clearly had no intentions of adopting this dog out to me. It should be stated somewhere all the policies because if I would have known quite of few things ahead of time, I would have been able to adopt this dog. If this was because of my age (that being 20), then viewpoints should be changed if you are wanting people to adopt. Update: I was able to adopt a dog. I'm happy with him, but I'm still going to leave this experience up. I was treated much better this time around.

If you're looking to adopt a furry friend this should be the first place you start. KC Pet Project at the Petco location sets the bar so high with their friendly caring staff and love for the pets. KC Pet Project honestly puts other shelters in town to shame. Highly highly recommend.
