Silver Lake is expansive and shallow, making it great for families because kids can wade out quite a distance into the warm water and it will still only be up to their waist. It's a great family lake. There is a nice, new, public beach next to the campground, and while there's an entrance fee, nobody was taking it on the Friday evening when we visited.

Great park and campground. Spent Memorial day weekend there and had a ton of options of things to do. Visited both Silver Lake and Lake Michigan and swam in both on the same day. People were friendly and staff very helpful. High up there on my state park recommendation list.

Silver Lake is a gem in the Michigan state park system. It encompasses huge sand dunes, four miles of beaches, a large, lovely lake, and a lighthouse.
The park has more than four miles of shoreline along Lake Michigan. The easiest place to get to is at the Little Point Sable Lighthouse. That beach is small, but you can practically drive your car right up to the lighthouse (again, there is a fee to enter this area - show your receipt if you already paid.) The beach by the lighthouse is also pet friendly. The other areas near the shore are harder to get to as you'll likely have to walk or take your ORV.

I have grown up driving in the silver lake sand dunes. This is a one of a kind place where you can drive your of road vehicles through the sand. There are also dune rides available for individuals who don't have an off road vehicle.
