Third visit and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We stayed in the king suites which was outstanding. Very comfortable and clean. Own private balcony overlooking the garden . Friendly staff and good service. The Royal is an exceptionally beautiful hotel with lovely finishes. Highly recommend. Looking forward to our next visit. Rooms: King suite outstanding. Lounge bed and full bathroom Nearby activities: Quirky shops. Nice restaurants and great wine estates Safety: Felt very safe in riebeek kasteel and nice to walking around the valley Walkability: Town on your doorstep
Had lunch on the stoep.. Very pricy and limited menu. Starter was OK. Main course was kingklip and chips, batter chewy and the fish totally overdone and dry. Desert was the only highlight. Not a good experience.
Overall great experience is a wonderfully unique town. As the afternoon went on, it became clear the waiters also wanted to go home as service dried up and we had to ask for anything we wanted. However, the food and drinks were great with a wonderful setting.
Had breakfast there on an early motorcycle ride. Popular with bikers and cyclists. Pool looks inviting. Nice set up.Service: 5/5
What a beautiful quaint hotel, with friendly staff and a touch of history. The rooms are spacious, the bathroom is beautiful and the views are nice. The breakfast is delicious and so are their burgers. My only gripe is that the hot water in the shower was cold. I also love the fireplace in the common area.Rooms: 3/5
I wish I had more time to give a proper overall review, but due to loadshedding, there wasn't much to view. We visited as a family, great menu, but lacking in certain aspects. Whilst I applaud the kitchen for operating under the strain, I know how they feel... In my mind, triple cooked chips should be well, triple cooked, these chips werent, garlic mayo, no garlic? And close to splitting when it arrived at the table. I tasted from everyone's plates, and it was good, my burger was alright, delicious bun though. Friendly waitress as well.
Had a delightful and memorable overnight stay at the Royal Hotel. The staff were professional, friendly and courteous. The food was delicious and well presented best granola I have ever eaten. The atmosphere delightful and it is well maintained and clean. Highly recommended for a country getaway.
Well Past it’s prime and not up to the standards expected… Food was below average
Fabulous old fashioned hotel. Service was excellent food was great.Rooms: 5/5
This is a review about the much advertised high tea. I did not stay at the hotel We had the high tea to celebrate a couple of birthdays. The food was plentiful but seriously lacking in quality and presentation. Cold scrambled egg on croissants...why?All the plates were plonked on the table, no stands. All the desserts were very heavy and there were these tiny glasses of pink milk that none of us could understand. The staff all seemed as if it was everyone's first day at work, a lot of blank stares and everytime we needed something we had to go searching for them. The cappuccinos were terrible and the tea was weak. Overall a disappointment, especially after driving from Durbanville where I can get a far better experience without driving for an hour.
