La Quinta Inn & Suites Des Moines West Clive

I always like La Quinta. This one isn’t super fancy, but it’s exactly what I needed for the night. Pet friendly. Clean rooms. Breakfast didn’t have any protein really (no hot eggs). So I suppose that would have been nice. Otherwise no complaints!

The rooms were very clean, but kinda small. There was a pool hot tub and weight room. There is free breakfast that offers waffles muffins yogurt fruit biscuits and gravy and ceral. No room service, the staff was mostly friendly, except when it came to eating food on the patio. But overall the stay was nice.

The hotel has improved since my stay last summer, (cigarette smoke coming from rooms, pot smells, trash in stairwells, agent never at desk) but it still needs complete renovations, and to be DEEP-CLEANED. My room had a smell lingering between the beds, (which are supposed to be full-size, but shorter and barely wider than a twin-size) near the nightstand, that I can only describe as "smelly feet, hanging out in a pool of rancid ketchup." I tried to 'hang out' on the side of the bed that was closest to the wall. The HVAC temp. was very hard to control as it was an old-style unit, with turn knobs. TV channel guide is set one hour ahead of real time, so you don't really know what is currently on. You could not flush toiled right away again, as you had to wait 5 minutes for the water level to fill. The windows are single-paned so the interstate and traffic noise is very loud. (I had requested non-interstate side with res. but was told "none were left, and you cannot even hear the road noise." Not true.) Deadbolt on door did not work, and the handle itself was very loose, which made the key card hit or miss, for entry. Sheets and pillowcases did not smell fresh at all, even though they did appear to be clean. On the upside; there was plenty of hot water; the shower had good pressure; and the towels were not stained, and clean. All-in-all, if in the future, I had a chance to stay here again; I would book elsewhere. I am an elite member, who is willing to give up stay-points, in order to avoid this hotel.

Great clean large rooms, awesome front staff. Would recommend. Edit: I need to edit my review. Still 5 stars but I would give it 10 if I could. We left a bag out in the snow next to our car and drove off without it. The staff found it and arranged to ship it to us (we live in Ohio). I am thrilled with this hotel, excellent customer service!

We stay here often. Good location. Watch prices, they will spike when something is going on in DSM. Staff turnover each time we stay. Has pool and hot tub good for family. Average breakfast. Clean rooms. Join La Quinta Returns to earn free nights and rewards.
