Very sad that the original Wye Oak tree is gone, but they have done a great job of explaining the history and showing the remnants of the tree. There is a new wye oak that is planted in the same spot as the old tree. It will be a great tree in a few hundred years.

A touching experience, one of nature's most magnificent specimens, sadly lost in a hurricane some years ago. A sapling will someday majestically rule in its stead. Oh what that majesty must have witnessed during it's lifetime. Off the beaten track, but worth the detour, so long as your not a developer out to reap the beauty, for your greed and personal gain.

It's a small park not much to see or do, but it has a nice story and places to sit. Also has a few things to look at.

Although the original WyeOak fell by a storm in 2008, the memorial to its magnificence is worthy of the trip. I grew up near the tree, just "down the road a piece." Visitors would stop us to ask where the Wye Oak State Park was located; our reply, "You just missed it." Don't you miss it; plan a trip to see Maryland's majestic state tree.
