I'm not a dog person. I like them, but I'm not comfortable around large breeds. I thought Abbey woods would be perfect for me because the lease has a detailed list of dog breeds which aren't allowed to live here- which I support. To me, it makes sense to limit dogs because the apartments are not very strong (or soundproofed), and the grounds are not extensive with far too few dog poo bins. Well, the rules are not enforced and this place has turned into my worst nightmare with dogs everywhere! So many dogs and you wouldn't believe how many are disqualified breeds! There are enough dogs in the community that there are a handful of dog walkers and even a crazy person who runs a dog daycare out of her apartment! I don't feel safe taking a walk when there is someone walking 3-5 large dogs they clearly cannot control.
There is so much barking- loud barking all day long and if you try to sleep with your windows open, you'll hear dogs fighting outside in the morning nearly everyday.
And no one cleans the waste! I've never seen such a thing but at abbey woods, no one picks up after their dogs! Only 2/10 messes get cleaned. Some get picked up, but the plastic bag only gets hurled at the nearest tree. I can't believe my eyes when I go outside there are droppings in so many places, or there is usually dog piss in the elevator or on the stairs. Disgusting!
They won't enforce the rules so it feels like a dirty and dangerous place to live. I do not recommend it. Seriously, think twice before you move here!

Even though you must pay for your garage parking space, there is nothing done to prevent someone else from parking there. This has happened to me twice in less than 6 months.
Grounds crew works very hard and does a great job.

We've been living at Abbey Woods since May 2017 and love it. Our apartment is modern, spacious (2 bed, 2 bath + den) and the layout great. We have a free basement parking that's great for Winter. Tenants and management office members are friendly and helpful. Any maintenance queries always dealt with within 24 hours. And the amenities nice. Within 15 minutes of Trader Joes, Stop and Shop, Wholefoods, Danbury Mall, Walmart and Target.
Biggest con: dog owners not abiding by dog toilet rules
Suggestion: close off the play area so it's safer for small kids playing next to the road. Create an age appropriate outdoor space for teenagers. The play area gets dangerous for smaller kids between 3pm-4pm when the older kids come out of school swearing, knocking the littles over and kicking up mulch while playing football

My mother had a serious accident and it left her paralyzed from the waist
down and she is in an electric wheelchair. We needed to find an apartment for her and her live in aide to live. We rented Abbey Woods for our mother. We thought this was a nice place for our mother to live in. She lived in the apartment for 1 year. When she moved out we cleaned the apartment and from her wheelchair wheels there was a stain on the rug in the living room. Abbey Woods charged us to replaced all the carpeting in the apartment. They did not give us back our security and we had to pay $230.00. This is the way they treat the handicapped. Make sure your apartment is in perfect shape before you move out. My mom is living in another apartment which is much cheaper and she is very happy where she is now. Just beware of the cost to move out of Abbey Woods. Take pictures of apartment when you move in and take pictures when you move out, unfortunately we did not do that.
